About Jam
Jam is a fruit preserve slowly cooked with sugar, often flavoured with cinnamon, lemon peel or cloves. In Portugal, jam-making was an essential seasonal activity — grandmothers would use surplus summer fruit to ensure sweetness through winter. At A Pharmácia da Avó, our jams are artisanal and feature both in the cafeteria (served with scones and toast) and in our Jam Workshops, where visitors learn this ancestral art.
