— A Pharmácia da Avó —
A story of memory, affection and tradition
— Founder —
When Ana Isabel was a little girl, her grandmother had a grocery shop. A place where everything was sold — and where colds were also cured with chicken broth, sore throats with honey and lemon, and longing with a good conversation.
People in the village fondly called it "a pharmácia da avó" — the grandmother's pharmacy — because there they found remedies for almost everything. That childhood memory never faded.
Today, Ana Isabel revives that name and that spirit in a space where every cup, every dish and every detail say the same as that grocery shop did: everything that matters begins around a table.
— The Name —
In the old days, pharmácias were more than places for medicine. They were places where everything was taken care of — a tea for the flu, a homemade syrup for the cough, wise advice for the soul.
That's why people began to fondly call Ana Isabel's grandmother's grocery shop "a pharmácia da avó" — the grandmother's pharmacy. Because there you could find a remedy for almost anything — from hunger to longing.
Here, we reclaim that name and that care. A place where tea cures haste, where soul-made food cures longing, and where time spent at the table cures almost everything else.
Born from a genuine desire to rescue memories, values and sensations fading with modern life's fast pace. A soulful project sustained by an authentic concept.
A place where time slows, freshly brewed tea mingles with antique wood, and every detail evokes Portuguese grandmothers' homes from the 70s and 80s.
The name "Pharmácia" comes from a childhood memory. Ana Isabel's grandmother had a grocery shop where villagers came looking for much more than supplies — they came for advice, teas for coughs, honey for sore throats, conversation for the soul. People fondly began to call it "the grandmother's pharmácia". Today, that name is our home.
The offering is built on four pillars: meals, the tea house and cafeteria, the shop of regional and artisan products, and the organisation of themed cultural events.
The project exists to serve the community and grow with it. It seeks to integrate into local life, partner with artisans and producers.
More than an offering — a manifestation of affection. A place where tea replaces noise, the past finds new life, and simplicity becomes experience.
Every cup, every dish and every detail must tell a story — the story of our grandmothers.
