About Fado
Fado is Portugal's most emblematic music genre, classified as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2011. Born in Lisbon's popular neighbourhoods in the 19th century, fado expresses saudade, love, destiny and the Portuguese soul. At A Pharmácia da Avó, while our ambient music is soft jazz, fado's spirit — saudade, emotion, authenticity — is present in everything we do.
