About Sugar
Sugar was one of the most important products in Portuguese economic history. Produced in Madeira since the 15th century, it was called "white gold" and financed many Discoveries expeditions. Sugar is fundamental to all Portuguese convent pastry — from queijadas to pão de ló, pastéis de nata to ovos moles. At A Pharmácia da Avó, we use sugar in moderation, letting the natural flavour of ingredients shine.
